First Bus Changes

First Aberdeen, the city’s largest bus operator, today confirmed temporary changes to services affected by the six-week closure of Union Terrace.

The company will also run a temporary shuttle service to help Christmas shoppers access Union Street

Road diversions are being implement to allow for what’s billed as Aberdeen’s biggest Winter Festival yet.

Union Terrace will be closed to all traffic to accommodate German markets, an entertainment marquee, ice rink and funfair rides.

The winter celebration means First’s services 1/2, 3, 4 and 12 operating in the area will be affected between November 21 and January 9, 2016.
Service 1 journeys which normally start and finish at Schoolhill will start at Castle St and finish at Broad St.

Service 3/3G will be diverted between Rosemount Viaduct and Guild St, operating direct via Denburn in both directions. Additional temporary bus stops on Rosemount Viaduct and Denburn will be in operation.

Service 4 will be diverted from city centre via Bridge St, Wapping St, and Denburn Rd. Inward journeys from Dubford are unaffected.

Service 12 will be diverted between Skene Square and Guild St, operating direct via Denburn in both directions.  Additional temporary bus stops on Skene Square/Woolmanhill and Denburn will be in operation.

To support passengers and reduce the longer walk required to access Union Street, Bridge Street and Guild Street due to the diversions, First will run a temporary shuttle Service 123 throughout the Winter Festival period.
Customers with valid tickets will be able to transfer on the shuttle service for free. A single fare of £1.30 will also be available and Concession card holders will be able to travel as normal.

It will run at frequent intervals and operate via;
·    Bridge Street
·    Guild Street
·    Market Street
·    Union Street

David Phillips, Managing Director of First Aberdeen, said: “I’d like to assure our customers we are doing our very best to adapt our services to take account of WinterFest diversions.

“Road closures mean a key road on our network is inaccessible, preventing access to two bus stops which are normally very busy. In order to best maintain our timetable commitment to passengers, we are having to detour buses away from the city centre.

“I recognise that this inconvenience is disrupting those seeking access to the city centre and I also appreciate access to Union Street from Guild Street presents a problem for many people. That’s why we’re implementing this shuttle service at our own cost to help people make that link.

“I fully appreciate passengers may be inconvenienced by these changes but myself and the First Aberdeen team are certainly doing our upmost to limit the disruption being caused to bus services over the festive period and I certainly hope our shuttle service helps mitigate the impact of the diversions for our passengers.”

The timetable for all revised services are available online and paper copies will be available on bus and in the Travel Centre.
