SUMMMER EVENT TO CELEBRATE ALL THAT’S GREAT ABOUT ABERDEEN

An event is being organised in the heart of Aberdeen this summer to showcase all that’s great about the city.

The gathering – organised by the big-hearted team behind the Celebrate Aberdeen Parade, in partnership with Aberdeen City Council – will feature an exciting line-up packed with the very best in local talent.

Held over the weekend of Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31, the event will see a host of performers and community groups take to a stage in Union Terrace Gardens to entertain attendees.

The event will coincide with Aberdeen’s international street market and farmer’s market, meaning the city centre will be abuzz with fun, colour and energy that weekend.

Organisers are encouraging people from across Aberdeen to take part any way they can – from, for example, individuals holding ‘Dress Pink’ days to local businesses offering special discounts, which would all come under Celebrate Aberdeen banner.

The gathering builds upon the success of the Celebrate Aberdeen Parade, which saw more than 3,500 people from 130 different third sector organisations come together on three occasions to highlight the exceptional work carried out by local charities.

This new event has the same ultimate aim as the parade; to unite people in a positive manner to celebrate the great people and talent of Aberdeen.

And the Celebrate Aberdeen team is urging any entertainers – including musicians, singers, dancers and comedians – who are interested in performing to get in touch.

Already confirmed for the event is the Aberdeen Rock Choir, as well as the Aberdeen Chorus of Sweet Adelines – which comprises 80 north-east women – whilst local comedy club Breakneck Comedy will also take part.

Morven Mackenzie, managing director of integrated communications agency Citrus:Mix, who established Celebrate Aberdeen, commented: “We’re extremely excited to launch our latest Celebrate Aberdeen event, which builds on the phenomenal success of our charity parade with a fresh twist.

“Aberdeen is truly vibrant city, awash with colour, talent and diversity and this event will provide a fantastic platform for celebrating all the great things that go on here.

“Our programme is filling up quickly so if you are involved in entertainment, either individually or as part of a group, then we want to hear from you.

“Also, we’re organising this with only a small group of volunteers so we’d encourage anyone interested in helping out on the weekend to get in touch. We’d love to have as many people as possible on board to make this an event from the people of Aberdeen for the people of Aberdeen.”
